For the Surpassing Worth of Knowing Christ
Just as in the garden of Eden, where freewill brought mankind to shame through their own weakness, our freewill delights in attracting us to fleeting pleasures and distracting us from holy nearness.
God is near, yes. But it is our duty to pursue His nearness. The knowledge of nearness is futile should our souls never feast on the beauty of it all.
Yet He is not far from each one of us.
Since being back in the US, I have learned that America is busy – myself included! But are we intentional? Are we making the most of the time we have?
What would happen if we took the time to slow down?
From my experiences, the strongest Christian communities put a lot of emphasis on prayer; there are prayer gatherings, prayer lists, prayer lessons, etc. We learn how to care for others by bringing them to our Father in Heaven and seeking His guidance in hard situations in life.
But how often do we pray for ourselves?
For today’s post, I want to share with you the ways God has been teaching me to pray for myself. I hope you’ll join me in praying for your heart and life as well.
Several weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity of going to stay with a missionary teammate in an extremely Islamic village. The experience taught me so much about missions, God, people, the brokenness in our world,… and myself. Sin is a tragedy. A terrible, heartbreaking tragedy. And it should disgust us. It should make us cry in passion and tremble in heartache.
My dad isn’t perfect. He’s made a lot of mistakes, and he’d tell you that. But he loves God. A lot. At the end of the day, we’re all imperfect humans held in the hands of a perfect God, and that is a wonderful truth. That we have done nothing, can’t do anything…and He chooses to love us like a father loves his child.
As believers in Christ, Yahweh is our foundation. When we don’t nurture our relationship with Yahweh we’re ridding ourselves of the one thing keeping us on stable ground.
